Peter J. DeMean, 81, Wilton Junction, died at 1:30 p.m. March 31, at the University hospital, Iowa City, after a lengthy illness.

Born July 24, 1879, in Germany, he was the son of John and Minnie Hammer DeMean.

Mr. DeMean married Stella Keller Feb. 29, 1916, in Rock Island, Ill. He was a retired farmer and a former resident of Atalissa.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Velda) Werling, Atalissa; 2 brothers, George, Moscow and Claus, West Liberty; 4 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services were April 3 at Wilton Junction. The Rev. G. Farr officiated. Burial was at the Moscow cemetery.
