George Askam, 71, a life-long resident of the West Liberty area, died at Mercy hospital in Iowa City Thursday night after a brief illness.

Mr. Askam was born Nov. 18, 1885, in the Cedar Valley community, a son of James and Genevia Reid Askam. He was married to Mae Inghram March 8, 1911, and the couple established their home on a farm in the Cedar Valley community.

Twelve years ago Mr. Askam moved to West Liberty.

He was a member of the Methodist church and the I.O.O.F. lodge.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Clifton Meyers and Mrs. Don Irwin, both of West Liberty; one son, Inghram Askam, Anamosa; one brother, Reuben Askam, West Liberty, and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Methodist church in West Liberty with burial in Oakridge cemetery.
