William J. McConnaha, 29, was fatally injured about 2:30 p.m. Dec. 26 while cutting timber on a farm southwest of Bennett.

McConnaha, who farmed near Atalissa, was cutting timber with his brother-in-law, Richard Stutzman. He was struck on the head by a large tree limb that was broken off by a tree they had just felled.

The tree limb hit McConnaha on the head, fracturing his skull. He was taken to Bellevue hospital in Muscatine by Stutzman, but was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. William C. McConnaha, he was born Nov. 23, 1927, in Muscatine county, where he had resided all his life. His marriage to Laura McClean took place Dec. 14, 1947, at Wilton Junction. He was a member of the West Liberty Methodist church and Wilton lodge, A.F. & A.M.

Surviving are his wife and four daughters, Joanne, Jeanne, Barbara and Catherine, at home; his parents, Muscatine; one brother, Grant, Muscatine, and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Smith, Muscatine; Mrs. Richard Stutzman, Wilton Junction, and Mrs. Floyd Holliday, Atalissa.

Funeral services were held Friday at the West Liberty Methodist church. Burial was in the Melpine cemetery.
