WEST LIBERTY – Funeral services for Giles (Guy) smith, 83, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Snider Funeral home, West liberty. Mr. Smith, a former resident of the Nichols and West Liberty area, died Tuesday at the Lucy Lee Memorial hospital, Popular Bluffs, Mo., following a brief illness.
Officiating at the service will be Rev. Travis Young. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born July 7, 1890 in Nichols. He married Carrie E. Browning in Nichols Aug. 17, 1912. He was a member of Pike Grange No. 2218, Nichols, and had farmed all his life.
Surviving are a son, Lester R., Muscatine; two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Thompkins, Van Buren, Mo., and Mrs. Delores Hansen, Tipton; two brothers, Wesley, Columbus Junction, and Harry, California; three sisters, Mrs. Vera Mersdorf, Springfield, Ore.; Mrs. Nina Dubisher, Iowa City, and Mrs. Bernice Tobin, Washington; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1965.
