Mrs. Schmelzer, Resident Here 64 years, Dies
Mrs. Mary Schmelzer, 80, resident of Muscatine for 64 years, died at 7 p.m. Sunday at her home, 118 McArthur street, after an extended illness with complications.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Wagner, she was born Jan. 14, 1870 in Hamburg, Germany. Her marriage to Henry Schmelzer took place in Muscatine in 1887. Mrs. Schmelzer was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church.
Surviving are four sons, Fred, Harry and Ralph Schmelzer, all of Muscatine and Rudolph Schmelzer of Rockford, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Anna Clark in California, Mrs. Helen Swords of Batavia, Ill.; and Mrs. Violet McCullough of Muscatine, and sister in Germany; and 22 grandchildren. Her husband, four sons and one brother preceded her in death.
The body is at the Ralph J. Wittich Funeral Home where funeral arrangements have not yet been completed. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
