DIED

At his home in Muscatine, corner of Mulberry and Third, Aug. 10, 1883, at 7 p.m., J. W. Brown, aged 31.
Deceased was the son of Capt. Malen Brown, and was born in the house where he expired last evening. He has been a resident of our city during all these years except as business and his profession called for his absence at intervals. An engineer by trade, his last engagement was on the Central Pacific and he belonged to the American Desert Division No. 55, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He has been ailing for a year or more, but did not leave his post until last spring, when he returned home; and he was able to be up and about until two weeks ago when he seemed to surrender to his malady, which remains much of a mystery to his physician.
Deceased was also a Free Mason and Odd Fellow and stood high in both orders. His father died two years ago last January; his mother, two brothers and five sisters survive to mourn the loss of a most noble and devoted brother and son.
The funeral will take place from the residence tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m.
