Former Resident, Noted Pen Artist, Dies in New Jersey

Conesville, la., Aug. 10— C. B. Horton received a message Thursday morning telling of the death of his brother, Loren C. Horton, of East Orange, N. J., at his summer home at Asbury Park, West Allenhurst, N. J. on Wednesday afternoon. C. B. Horton and family had received word, from Mrs. Loren Horton about a month ago that he was seriously ill with high blood pressure and had not been able to be in his office since last fall.
Loren Camp Horton, the eldest son of Marion and Susan Horton, was born on Aug. 7, 1869 at Summon, Ill. He came to Conesville, with his parents in March, 1882. He attended the Conesville schools, the Eastern Iowa Normal school at Columbus Junction, and State Teacher's college at Cedar Falls.
In 1891 he went east where he taught in a business college with which he was later connected. He was an exceptionally good penman.
Later on he opened an office in New York City, where he was known as one of the leading hand and pen expert detectives of the United States, having served on many noted cases. In the June issue of the True Detective magazine was a good description of his work and it also contained his picture.
In 1895 he was united in marriage to Miss Abna Page, who with the two daughters, survives. The daughters are, Mrs. Eleanor Monsell, of New Haven, Conn., and Mrs. Margaret Southerland of East Orange. N. J. He is also survived by one brother, Clarence B. Horton, of Conesville.
