Funeral of the Late Mrs. Jane Van De Maat at Adams.

Funeral of This Good Woman Was Held Yesterday Afternoon at Home in Adams – Interment at Nichols Cemetery.

The funeral of the late Mrs. Jane Van De Maat, of Adams, was held yesterday afternoon from the late residence. Rev. A. Judson Kempton, pastor of the First Baptist church of this city, conducted the services. He made a few short remarks on the beautiful character of the deceased. After the services at the home the sad cortege wended its way to Nichols cemetery, where the interment was made.

Mrs. Jane Van De Maat passed away last Wednesday afternoon as a result of an operation performed some days ago at Iowa City. She was born on June 2, 1839 in Holland and came to America with her parents in 1861. On December 1, 1865, she was united in marriage to John Van de Maat. To them were born seven children, five of whom are living. Mr. Van De Maat died in 1899. In her girlhood days Mrs. Van De Maat joined the First Baptist church of Muscatine and remained a faithful member until death. Ever since coming to America she resided in Muscatine county, which was her home for 44 years.

The children who survive are Gertrude Van De Maat, at home; Albert Van De Maat, of Alta Vista, Ia.; Henry Van De Maat, of Adams, Ia.; Mrs. Nettie Gosen, of Nichols, Ia.; and Mrs. Anna Adams, of Alta Vista, Ia.
