Balmos Funeral Will Be Monday – Funeral services over the remains of Mrs. Martha E. Balmos, who died at the home of her son, John Balmos, in Fruitland township, will be held on Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock from the home and at 2 o’clock from the German Evangelical church, the Rev. William Martens officiating.

Interment will be made in the Greenwood cemetery. The services will be private and the family requests that no flowers be sent.

Obituary – Martha Elizabeth Hoffman was born in the province of Hersford, Kingdom of Hessen Germany, Feb. 25, 1835. In 1855 she came to this country together with her parents, visiting with relatives in New York City for several months. September 17, of the same year she came to Muscatine.

September 7, 1858, she was united in marriage with John Balmos to which union three children were born, all of whom survive. She had resided in Muscatine county continually since 1855. She had made her home wither son John Balmos, of the Burlington road for the past six years. To survive her she leaves three children, two sons, John of the Burlington road and Jacob Balmos of Atalissa, and one daughter, Mrs. Henry Schaefer of Moline.
