Genevieve Still

Genevieve Still, 84, of Conesville, Iowa, died Monday, May 30, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services for Genevieve will be Friday, June 3, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction, Iowa. Pastor Betsey Neipert of the Conesville United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2nd from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Genevieve’s name. Burial will be in the Nichols Cemetery. Sympathy notes be left for the Still family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.
Genevieve Elta Hillyer was born April 2, 1921 in Canaan, Connecticut, the daughter of John and Mary (Howe) Hillyer. She was a graduate of the Nichols High School. (Class of 1939) She married William Middagh in 1940, and they later divorced. In 1943 Genevieve married Charles Oostendorp. He preceded her in death in 1982. On March 31, 1986, she was united in marriage to Leonard Still in Las Vegas, Nevada. Genevieve had worked at Owens Brush Co., Louis Rich Foods and most recently at Deaton’s Bowl. Gen loved and enjoyed family and her cat, Boo Boo; loved going to family reunions and get-togethers, playing cards, and her knickknacks and collections of magnets. Gen always had a big garden and grew many beautiful flowers. She canned a lot of her homegrown vegetables. Gen had bowled on many leagues for many years and won many trophies and awards. She enjoyed looking for 4-leaf clovers.
Genevieve will be dearly missed by her husband, Lee and one son, Robert Middagh, both of Conesville; three sisters, Jeanette Carlile of Muscatine; Grace Krolak and husband, Edward of Peru, IL.; Shirley Hillyer of Nichols; two step brothers, Duane Jensen and wife Joyce of South Carolina and James Jensen and wife Charlotte of Muscatine; three step sisters, Lucille Bechman and husband, Bill, of Muscatine, Katie Simpson and husband, Willie of Des Moines and Carla Dunnahoo and husband, Ron, of West Liberty; stepsons, Kevin Still and wife, Linda of Columbus City, Terry Still and wife, Vickie, and Gordon Still all of Lennex, IL; stepdaughter, Joan Jimerson and husband Danny; sister-in-law, Joyce Edon and husband, Jim of Mt. Ayr; two brothers-in-law, Raymond Still and George Still of Mt. Ayr; and several nephews and nieces.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Ethel Green; two brothers, Almon Hillyer and John Hillyer, Jr.; two nieces; and her stepmother, Gladys Jensen Hillyer.
