West Liberty – Miriam V. Banhagel, 84, died Tuesday, July 2, 1991, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following an extended illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 5, at the West Liberty Chapel of the Barker Funeral Home. Burial will be at Nichols Cemetery at Nichols.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Nichols First Responders, West Liberty Rescue Unit or Mercy Hospital Pastorial Care.
Mrs. Banhagel was born May 18, 1907, at Nichols a daughter of George and Lillian Buck Richter. Her marriage to Ira Renshaw took place on Nov. 14, 1931, in Nichols. He died in 1950. She married Walter Banhagel on April 14, 1963, in Atalissa. He died in 1979.
She was a graduate of the Nichols Public School in 1924 and West Liberty High School in 1925. She was a member of the Methodist Church, Royal Neighbors of America and the Women’s Relief Corp of Lone Tree, and the Women of the Moose in Muscatine. She had worked for the Snider and later the Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty.
