CLOTHING IGNITED; BURNS PROVE FATAL

MISS MINNIE SHAPPVELD VICTIM OF TRAGIC ACCIDENT.

Clothes Catch Fire When She Lights Stove After Cleaning a Dress With Gasoline.

Lone Tree, la., Aug. 18,—(Special.)—Miss Minnie Schaapveld, aged 22 years, a popular Lone Tree young woman, was the victim of a tragic accident Sunday in which she received terrible burns, resulting In her death last evening.
Miss Schaapveld yesterday, shortly before noon, was engaged in cleaning a dress with gasoline. A few minutes later she went to the kitchen and lit the stove preparatory to getting dinner. Immediately her clothing took fire and the young woman rushed from the house, a human torch. She was alone at the house at the time, and so rushed, screaming into the street, where with great i presence of mind she threw herself on the ground and attempted to smother the flames by rolling In the] dirt. Her screams attracted the attention of neighbors, who hurried to her assistance, but, before help could reach her, practically every bit of clothing had been burned from her body and she had received terrible burns, from which death resulted. She was at once carried into her home and Drs. Gay and Delano summoned. Death occurred at about. 6 o'clock last evening.
Miss Schaapveld is survived by her father, John Schaapveld, and three sisters and three brothers. The latter are Mrs. George Fernstrom, Mrs. Home Blake and Mrs. Charles Zilver, and John and Fred Schaapveld, of Lone Tree, and Henry Schaapveld, of Minnesota. The funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the Catholic church here. Interment will be made at Nichols, la.
