Ricard M. Ballou, 60, of Wilton, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at Unity Health Systems Hospital in Muscatine.

Services were held Saturday, May 10, at First Presbyterian Church in Wilton. Reverend Bruce Giese officiated. Musical selections were provided by organist Diana Gradert and vocalist Henry Bentley. Burial will take place at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty. A memorial fund was established for the American Heart Association and the Wilton First Responders. Bentley Funeral Homes of Durant were in charge of arrangements.

Richard M. Ballou was born February 27, 1943, to Cedric and Kathryn Voelker Ballou in Anamosa. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1962. He then served in the Army from 1962-1965.

He married Sandra L. Buckman on March 22, 1964, at West Liberty. He retired as a printing tech at Eastern Iowa Light and Power in Wilton after 30 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilton and Wahkonsa Country Club, where he was a past president. He was a former member of the Wilton American Legion and the Muscatine Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, traveling and spending time with his grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Ballou, of Wilton; two daughters, Debbra Witmer and her husband, Chris, of West Liberty, and Laura Bailey and her husband, Randy, of Wellman; two grandsons, Zachary and Samuel Bailey of Wellman; two sisters, Mary Hepker and her husband, Dennis, of Atalissa, and Kathy Fees and her husband, Steve, of Madrid; and three brothers, Ray Ballou and his wife, Jamie, of Eldridge, Robert Ballou and his wife, Linda, of Missouri Valley, and Roger Ballou and his wife, Denise, of Mount Joy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cedric Ballou, and his mother, Kathryn Ballou.
