Irene Rose Rockwell, 78, of West Liberty, died Wednesday, October 1, 1997, at the Iowa City Rehabilitation Center, following a long illness.

Services were held October 5, 1997, at the Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty, with Rev. Deb Suess, Pastor Fiends Church West Branch, officiating. Organist was Lori Brooke with Darren Brooke as soloist. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Honorary casket bearers were Chris and Nancy Ridenour, Carrie and Mike Jackson, Stacy Ervin, Eric Ridenour, Matthew Ridenour and Logan Jackson. Memorials may be made to the Iowa City Hospice.

Mrs. Rockwell was born June 28, 1919, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Joseph and Barbara Vrchoticky Bervid. She was a graduate of Shueyville, Iowa, High School. She married Milton Rockwell on November 16, 1942, at Kahoka, Missouri. She had been employed at the India Café in West Liberty and later for Victor Metal in Iowa City.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy (husband, Fred) Ridenour of Houston, Texas and Janet (husband, John) Ervin of West Liberty; a brother, Donald Bervid of Urbana; a sister, Gloria Eichhorn of Solon; three grandchildren, Chris Ridenour, Carrie Jackson, and Stacy Ervin; and three great-grandchildren, Eric and Matthew Ridenour and Logan Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1995, and a brother.
