Mrs. Ruth Kirby, 92, formerly of West Liberty, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 24, at the Crestview Care Center in West Branch.

She was born on Nov. 11, 1900, in Muscatine County, the daughter of Charles and Edith Birkett Mosher. On Sept. 8, 1923, she was married at Muscatine, to George Kirby.

She was a life member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church, the UMW of the church, and also a member of the Lotus Chapter of the O.E.S. She was also a member of the Chapter AH of the PEO, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Mary Edith and Kenneth Jeffries of West Branch; three grandsons, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975, two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 26, from the West Liberty United Methodist Church, with Rev. Donald Thompson officiating. Organist was Les VerHeist. Pallbearers were Dean Kirby, Donald Kirby, Ronald Brown, Richard Myers, Joe Myers and Douglas Phillips. Burial was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established. The West Liberty Chapel of the Barker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
