Annette (Onie) Mare Carter, 55, of Maineville, Ohio (formerly of Nichols, Iowa) passed away January 12, 2015 in Ohio suddenly after a short battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nichols, Iowa, on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 10 a.m. with the burial to follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will follow the burial at the West Liberty Parish Life Center. A memorial fund has been established in the name of Holly and Heather Carter or you can make donations to Hospice of Cincinnati. A celebration of life will be held some time this spring in Ohio. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com.

Onie was born on December 1, 1959, the fifth child to Robert and Geraldine (Wolters) Kaalberg. She graduated from West Liberty High School in 1978. Onie worked 29 years for Procter & Gamble, beginning her career in Iowa City before transferring to Cincinnati in 1998. She retired from P&G in 2006 and later began working for Gus Perdikakis Associates Inc. as a logistics contractor. She was married to Mike Carter in Nichols; they later divorced.

Onie was known for her exceptional organizational skills and logistical planning. She loved to knit and read, was an excellent cook, and above all put everyone else’s needs above her own. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, enjoyed watching Nascar, and spending time with her family at the cabin on the Mississippi River. Her favorite thing was spending time with her children, grandson Aidan, and making people laugh.

Onie is survived by her two daughters: Holly Carter (Maineville, Ohio), and Heather Carter (Loveland, Ohio); one grandson, Aidan Carter-Kissell; her mother Gerrie Kaalberg of West Liberty; three sisters: Cathy Cox and Linda White (Dave) both of West Liberty, Iowa, and Paula Cooney (Pat) of Muscatine, Iowa; two brothers: Dave Kaalberg of Nichols, Iowa, and Phil Kalberg (Deb) of Muscatine, Iowa; nine special nieces and nephews; and special friends Brian and Eileen Kittleson of Ohio. She is preceded in death by her father and one brother-in-law.
