Mildred “Milly” Gregg, 58, of West Liberty, died October 6, 19997, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following an extended illness.

A service of remembrance will be held Thursday, October 9, 1997, at the West Liberty United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. A reception will be held Thursday from 4-7 p.m. in the Great Hall at the church. The body has been cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Liberty Depot Restoration Fund, P. O. Box 23, West Liberty, or at the West Liberty State Bank. The Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gregg was born Mildred Eleanor Heckart on January 24, 1939, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Alyce Bailey Heckart. The family moved to West Liberty when she was a pre-schooler. Milly graduated from West Liberty High School in 1957. She married Conrad Gregg on April 5, 1958, at the Little Brown church in Nashua.

At the time of her death, Milly was Executive Director of the Hoover Nature trail and owned Liberty Realty. She had served on the West Liberty City Council, owned “The Enterprise” a local newspaper and the local cable channel. She was instrumental in the planning and development of the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty and Golden Years Housing, where she had served on the board for a number of years. She was also a member of the West Liberty Rotary Club.

Survivors include her husband, Conrad of West Liberty; her mother, Alyce Heckart of West Liberty; a daughter, Jeanie Countryman of West Liberty; a son, Jerry Gregg of Medford, WI; brothers Robert Heckart of Anaheim, CA, Jim Heckart of Oklahoma City, OK, and Harold Heckart of Norfolk, VA; a sister, Vida Workman of Cedar Rapids; and grandchildren Shawna and Stacey Countryman and Kara and Keith Gregg, and Michelle Graber. She was preceded in death by her father and two older brothers.
