Ruby Schmitt, 72, of Nichols, Iowa, died August 1, 2000.

She was born October 24, 1927, the daughter of Joseph and Lillie (Gill) Jehle.

On October 24, 1948, she was married to Harold Schmitt at the Zion Lutheran Church in Muscatine.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Muscatine. She was a 4-H Leader for several years and a member of Fremont Homemakers. Ruby and her husband, Harold were actively involved in the Polled Hereford Cattle Business. She worked at the Lone Tree Health Care Center since it opened on February 15, 1974.

She is survived by her husband Harold Schmitt of Nichols; two sons, Gary Schmitt and his wife, Gwen of Nichols and Ronald Schmitt and his wife, Karin of West Liberty; one daughter, Cindy Monserud and her husband, Scott of Grapevine, Texas; four grandchildren, Nick, Alicia, Alison and Peyton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Vernon and one brother in infancy.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 4, 2000 at the Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home in Lone Tree with Rev. Paul Ostrem officiating. Organist was Grace Elliott and vocalist was Sally Robbins. Pallbearers were Nick Schmitt, Virgil Schmitt, Paul Yedlik, Bob Viner, Steve Olson and Andy Wehde. Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery. A general memorial fund has been established at the funeral home.
