In death of husband – Woman faces murder charge

A Muscatine woman is being held in Muscatine county jail on an open charge of murder in connection with a shooting incident early this morning.

Donna M. Allen, 38, of 2007 Lucas St. was arrested and charged with the shooting death of her husband, Donald Alfred Allen, 41, at the Allen residence.

Mrs. Allen appeared in Muscatine municipal court before Judge Jack L. Burns at 9 o’clock this morning. Her attorney, Wayne Eckhardt, stated his client wished to waive a preliminary hearing. She was bound over to district court under $20,000 bond and committed to the county jail.

Police responded to a call from Gary Owens, of 705 W. 3rd St., a relative of the Allen’s, at 3:38 this morning after Mrs. Allen notified him of the shooting and he went to the Allen home.

Dr. V. W. Swayze, Muscatine county medical examiner, declared Allen dead at the scene. His body was taken to Davenport, where an autopsy was performed.

Police chief Glenn Axel stated Allen was shot twice, once in the chest and once in the left leg, with a .38 caliber revolver.

Services for Allen, a painting contractor, are pending at the Geo. M. Wittich Funeral Home.

Visitation will begin Thursday noon at the funeral home.

A son of Rueben and Emma Buckingham Allen, he was born Oct. 15, 1928, at Baltimore, Md. He had been a resident here 21 years.
