Mrs. Susan Waddell Thurman was born in Knox county, Ill., March 7, 1836, and died February 24, 1911, aged 74 years, 11 months, and 17 days, at Pueblo, Col.
Grandma Thurman had been living in Idaho, but eight days before her death Mrs. Cheney and Grandma Thurman went to Pueblo on a visit, and she contracted pneumonia on the morning of the 24th and died at 9:30 the same evening.
She was a resident of Muscatine for many years. She was married to B. F. Thurman in 1854, .and twelve children were born to this union, four children and the father having passed away. The eight children that survive are: Mrs. Fred Reno, of Fort Collins, Col.; George Thurman, of Bowling Green, Mo.; Mrs. W. E. Warner, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Mrs. E. G. Messenger, of Pueblo, Col.; Mrs. Thomas Gross, of Pueblo, Col., Frank Thurman, of Mt. Sterling, Ia.; Mrs. Agnes Cheney, of Montpelier, Ida., and Mrs. A. P. Williams, of Pasadena, Cal.
Grandma Thurman was a kind and devoted mother, and loved by all. Up to the time of her death she was a stout, rugged woman for one of her age, and spent her time in making various kinds of fancy work for her children. The children have the sympathy of the community in which she lived.
The floral offerings were many and beautiful. She was buried in Roselawn cemetery, Pueblo, Col. She was a member of the Methodist church and Rev. F. Bursell conducted the funeral. The pallbearers were W. E. Warner, Charles D. Cheney, E. G. Messenger, Thomas Gross, Royal Nelson, Fay Messenger, sons-in-law and grandsons of the deceased.
