George William Wolters

ROCK ISLAND, IL - George W. Wolters, 77 of Rock Island, IL died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Heartland Care Center in Moline, IL.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Farrell Hall, St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rock Island, with military honors. Pallbearers will be Michael Wolters, Wes Wolters, Eddy Wolters, Rory Wolters, Bob Hibbert, and Tom Keller.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2000 at Wheelan Funeral Home in Rock Island, IL, where a wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. A Father Edward J. Bader Assembly, Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus service will follow. Memorials may be made to the church, the Diabetes Association or a favorite charity.

Mr. Wolters was born February 22, 1928 in Malmo, NE, the son of Bernard A. and Antoinette E. (Ruess) Wolters. He married Jean R. Leahy on October 15, 1949 in Galesburg, IL.

He graduated as Salutatorian of his class from West Liberty High School in West Liberty, Iowa.

He attended the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport.

Mr. Wolters worked in the transportation department at Deere and Company in Moline for 33 years, retiring as transportation analyst in 1982.

He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in Europe. He was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island, and a member of Allouez Council 658, Knights of Columbus in Rock Island, and the Loras Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus in Davenport.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; three daughters, Mary Kay (Gabe) Castro of Englewood, CO, Theresa (Terry) Englehaupt of Colona, IL, and Patty Wolters of Glendale, AZ, three sons, Bill (Phyllis) Wolters of Northglenn, CO, Tim (Gloria) Wolters of Morton, IL, and Bob (Gail) Wolters of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren, Amber, Wes, Eddie, Rory, Jamie, Michael, and Olgajean; two sisters, Margaret “Marg” (Tom) Wenger of Muscatine, II and Geraldine “Gerrie” (Bob) Kaalberg of West Liberty, IA and one brother, Richard (Delores) Wolters of Sarasota, FL.
