W.F. Hathaway Funeral Rites to be Wednesday.
William F. Hathaway, 69, a retired farmer and fomer Muscatine alderman, died at 6:30 A.M. Sunday at Hershey hospital of complications after a two month illness. He made his home at 310 East Fifth street.
The son of Harry P. and Mary Manley Hathaway, he was born Jan. 14, 1871, in Muscatine and had been a resident of this community for 50 years.
He married Clara Miller Aug. 5, 1889 in the parsonage of the Methodist church here. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran church and of Iowa odge No. 2, A.F. and A.M.. He was a past master of the Masonic lodge at Clearwater, Minn.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Clara Hathaway, seven sons, Harry and Frank, both of Muscatine, Joseph of St. Paul, Minn., and Charles, Raymond, Seward, Kenneth and Jerold B. Hathaway, all of Muscatine; five daughters, Mrs. R.E. Gillette of Davenport, Mrs. John Williams of Winfield, Ia., Mrs. Harry Waltman of Muscatine, Mrs. William Schuebel of Morrill, Neb., and Mrs. Louis Gerdts of Muscatine; two half brothers, S.A. Prichard of Muscatine and A.U. Prichard of Winfield, Ia.; 31 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons.
He was employed as a street car motorman in Muscatine for a period of 13 years and served three terms as alderman of the first ward.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at the Ralph J. Wittich Funeral home with Rev. Reno R. Frobenius, pastor of the Grace Lutheran church officiating. Masonic services will be held by Iowa lodge No. 2, A.F. And A.M.. The body is at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial park.
