Curtis Utley

Marshalltown, Iowa – Curtis W. Utley, 78, formerly of Iowa City and West Liberty, died Saturday, August 16, 2003, at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, at the Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty.

Mr. Utley was born December 26, 1924, in West Liberty, the son of Wiley and Anna Williams Utley.

He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1942. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a prisoner of war during World War II. He was a cashier at the V. A. Hospital, Iowa City, for more than 30 years.

He was a member of the American Legion Mansell Phillips Post No. 509 in West Liberty and of the Elks in Muscatine. He was also a former member of the West Liberty Country Club.

Survivors include a son, Roger Utley and wife Anne of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Reeta Haugen and husband Donn of Las Vegas; five grandchildren, Lance, Kent and Katie Utley, all of Denver, and Kristen Haugen and Jill Alegre and husband Ernie, all of Las Vegas; a great-grandson, Andrew; and a niece, Sharon Bane Misseldt.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel.
