Leo Frances Schalk

Mrs. Leo Frances Schalk, 90, of West Liberty, died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 28, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following an extended illness.

She was born May 18, 1901, at Wapello, the daughter of Wallace W. and Julia K. Wheatley Kline. On Aug. 1, 1937, she was married at Kahoka, Missouri, to Arthur W. Schalk. Mrs. Schalk had operated a Beauty Shop in her home in West Liberty for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Jo Kline of Iowa City, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral mass was held Friday, Aug. 30, from St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty with the Rev. Michael Colonnese officiating. Organist was Mrs. Pataricia Daufeldt. Pallbearers were Jeff Kline, Mark Kline, Kent Kline, Jack Hixon, Stewart Burkamper, and Steve Kline. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Muscatine. The West Liberty Chapel of the Barker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
