Mrs. Rodney Smith

Mrs. Betty Jane Smith, age 42, West Liberty, died Wednesday morning in Mercy hospital, Iowa City, following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Friday morning, July 2 at 10 a.m. from the West Liberty United Methodist church, with Rev. Dick Watkins, and Rev. Lawrence Carlton officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery.

She was born on January 1, 1935, at Muscatine, the daughter of Lawrence and Fay Brown Martin.

On June 7, 1953, she was married at West Liberty, to Rodney Smith.

Survivors include her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Sharon Shetler of Atalissa; one sister, Mrs. Carlene Hazen of Muscatine; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Martin of West Liberty; two grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Dorothy Carey was organist. Pallbearers were David Machovec, Kenneth Noble, Steve Burnett, Richard Smith, Hal Weinard and Roy Conklin.
