MORNING. DEATH VERY SUDDEN; APOPLEXY IS CAUSE

MRS. ANNA GERTRUDE SCHOMBERG DIED SUNDAY

Woman Arrived at Home of Daughter Saturday to Visit – Funeral at Nichols on Tuesday.

Within twenty-four hours after she had arrived at the home of her daughter to visit, Mrs. Anna Gertrude Schomberg, residing on Newell avenue, passed away. Her death occurred on Sunday morning and was due to apoplexy. On the preceding day the elderly woman had complained of a cold, but that the ailment would terminate fatally was not considered. The woman was stricken at the home of Mrs. Harry Coyner, in Lake township, at about 2 a.m. yesterday morning, and passed away shortly after the stroke.
Mrs. Schomberg resided for many years on a farm near Nichols, Ia. About two years ago she journeyed to the Pacific coast and visited with her children in California, and upon return east she took up her residence in Muscatine. She was the widow of the late John Schomberg.
Eleven children were born to them, eight of whom are still living. The daughters are: Mrs. Lizzie Ironmonger, Mrs. Bertha Mait and Mrs. Helen Murray, of California; Mrs. Mary Nodine, of Nichols, and Mrs. Coyner, of near this city. The sons are: John, of California, and Henry, of Nichols, and Jacob, of South Dakota. One sister, Mrs. Elsie Cashmore, of Oakland, Cal., and one half-brother, Adam Pilgrim, of this city, also survive her. The decedent was about 75 years of age, and leaves twenty-five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The remains will be taken to Nichols on Tuesday and the obsequies will be conducted at the Methodist church there at 2 p.m.
