MUSCATINE, Iowa — Beverly M. Sywassink, 90, of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at Bickford Cottage in Muscatine. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. October 14 at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the interment a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room. Visitation for Beverly will be 4 to 7 p.m. October 13 at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to Sweetland Memorial Fund in Beverly’s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.
Beverly Mae Moorhead was born on May 12, 1920, in Pleasant Prairie, Iowa, the daughter of Moses E. and Bessie V. (Raub) Moorhead. On November 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Ralph C. Sywassink in Muscatine, Iowa. Beverly had taught in rural schools for several years. She was a member of the Fellowship United Methodist Church — Sweetland Center and the United Methodist Women. She was a devoted farm wife, homemaker and active in many church activities.
Beverly will be deeply missed by two daughters, Phyllis J. O’Halloran and her husband James of Cedar Rapids and Joyce A. Schultz and her husband Edward of Muscatine; one son-in-law, Dallas Olson and his wife Diana of Bloomington, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Kevin Collins, Jenny Schultz, Darrin Schultz, Nicholas Olson, Erin Olson and Carmen O’Halloran; and three great-grandchildren, Griffin Collins, Grey Collins and Dylan Schultz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Sharon Olson, and four brothers, Don, Bernard, Gordon and Calvin Moorhead.
Beverly’s family offers a heartfelt thank you to the past and present staff of Bickford Cottage of Muscatine, who have cared for her so lovingly, compassionately and respectfully for the past five years.
