Lyle Sissel
MUSCATINE, Iowa — Lyle M. Sissel, 88, of Muscatine, died on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at Bettendorf Health Care Center in Bettendorf, Iowa, where he had been a resident for the last two weeks.
Lyle was born December 22, 1921, to William and Fern (Eis) Sissel in Muscatine County, Iowa. He married Eloise J. Otto on October 23, 1948, in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 8, 1999.
Lyle farmed in Muscatine County his entire life, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. Farming was his life. He lived and farmed on the same farmstead for 87 years. He was proud of his accomplishments on the farm and enjoyed sharing stories of how farming has changed during his lifetime. Lyle always put others first, after retirement he spent many hours befriending those who were homebound or in nursing homes. He enjoyed going for drives in the country and going out to dinner with family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports on Sunday, especially football, NASCAR and golf.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, Iowa.
Services will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. The officiant will be Pastor Ron Huber. Interment will take place at the Durant Cemetery.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughters, Debra and her husband Robert Hatton of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Kathy and her husband Steve McManigal of East Moline, Ill.; his granddaughter, Jeanette and her husband John Jones of Springfield, Tenn.; his great-granddaughter, Valerie Jones; his step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Scott McManigal; and his sister, Lavona Couillard and her husband Mike, of St. Petersburg, Florida. He will also be remembered and missed by numerous other relatives, friends, and his faithful companions, his dog Tippy and his cat Mr. Kitty.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his brother, Wayne Sissel.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Quad City Animal Welfare in his memory.
