MUSCATINE - Joseph Albert Marshek, 69, of 417 W. Third St., died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Unity Hospital.

Visitation will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mr. Marshek was born on June 25, 1931 in Flushing, New York, the son of Joseph A. Marshek Jr. and Helen Baldwin Marshek. He was a former resident of Des Moines, graduating from Roosevelt High School. He moved to Muscatine in 1950. He married June Weber on June 8, 1952, at the St. Mathias Catholic Church in Muscatine.

He attended Drake University prior to his transfer to the University of Iowa where he graduated as valedictorian with a degree in Chemical Engineering. During his college years, he was in the R.O.T.C.

He worked for Columbia Southern, a chemical company in Ohio.

He served in the US Army Engineering Corps as a First Lieutenant. He was stationed in Germany until 1956 and then transferred back to Ohio for a short time.

He worked as lead chemist at Weber Button Company for over thirty years.

He was president of the Gem and Mineral Club at one time. He enjoyed art and antique collecting, gardening, camping, hunting, fishing, rock hunting and cooking. He loved nature.

Survivors include his wife, June Marshek of Muscatine; two sons, Jens Allen Marshek of Yerington, Nevada, and Joseph E. Marshek of Muscatine; three daughters, Jayne Anne Huddleston of Mt. Morris, Ill., Laurie Jean Steele and her husband, Phillip, of Chicago, Ill., and Karena Marie Marshek of Muscatine; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, John Marshek of Napa, California, and Jim Marshek of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Patricia Carnes and Nancy Clark, both of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
