MUSCATINE - Henry C. Lichtenwald, 83, of 519 Adams St., died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at his home.

Services will be at the Zion Lutheran Church, 517 Sycamore St. The Rev. Paul Ostrem will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jerry Lichtenwald, Glenn Olson, Eric Lichtenwald, Larry Lichtenwald, Dennis Moore, and Daryl Moore. Honorary Bearers will be David Moore, Glen Stuart and Jim Mulvehill.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with a Military Service.

Visitation will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Iowa City Hospice or the Zion Lutheran Church.

Mr. Lichtenwald was born on Oct. 14, 1916, in Fort Collins, Colo., the son of William and Eva Frank Lichtenwald. He married Iola Moore on Oct. 17, 1936, in Muscatine.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II in the Amphibious Unit.

He was the assistant fire chief for the Muscatine City Fire Department, retiring in 1975 after 32 years of service.

He also enjoyed building cabinets and traveling.

He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Iola Lichtenwald of Muscatine; a son, Jerry Lichtenwald and his wife, Janice, of Muscatine; a daughter, Carol Lichtenwald Olson and her husband, Glenn, of Ankeny; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Eva Lichtenwald, a brother, Albert, and a sister, Helene.
