Rock Island, Ill. -- Norbert DeMeulenaere, 77, of Rock Island, Ill., died Monday April 17, 2000, at Trinity Medical Center West in Rock Island, Ill.

Services will be at the Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. The Rev. Peter Sickels will officiate. Pallbearers will be Kevin Kapinski, Joe Schulte, Justin Heim, Gene Otto, John Kapinski, and Tom Schulte. Honorary bearers will be Greg Christensen, Randy Stevens, Bill Bonnet, and Larry Van DeKerckhove. Organist will be Mabyn Fox and vocalist will be Henry Bentley. Burial will be at the Durant Cemetery in Durant with military services.

He was born on July 22, 1922, in Moline, the son of August and Gudula Verschorre DeMeulenaere. he married Vivian L. Turner in 1979 in Davenport.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He was employed by Sears in Moline, Ill. for 25 years, retiring in 1984.He was a member of the Moline American Legion Post 246, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Davenport and the Svithoid Club in Moline, Ill.

He enjoyed bowling and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian MeMeulenaere of Rock Island, Ill.; a daughter, Michelle Stevens and her husband, Randy, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Peg Kapinski and her husband, John, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; Lynn Schulte and her husband, Tom, of Davenport; a stepson, Greg Christensen of Walcott; two brothers, Florence DeMeulenaere of Ukiah, Calif. and Theodore DeMeulenaere of Moline, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandson, Jordan Kapinski-Heim.
