MUSCATINE, Iowa
Alberta Marie Awbrey, 90, of Muscatine, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Lutheran Homes.

Funeral Mass will be at the St. Mary Church, 417 Green Street. The Reverend John P. Gallagher will officiate. Casket Bearers will be Greg Jansen, Eric Jansen, Tony Awbrey, Rob Awbrey, J. R. Beaver, Jim Hoefer, Andy Erpelding, and Tim Herrin. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. A Funeral Luncheon will be held at Gannon Hall following the committal service.

Visitation will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home with at Rosary Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2005, at the funeral home lead by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Joan of Arc Court 524. Memorials may be made to Ss Mary and Mathias Parish or the Lutheran Homes.

Alberta was born on February 12, 1915, in Pleasant Prairie, the daughter of Albert and Mary McGee Stecher. She married Allen George Awbrey on June 1, 1938 at the St. Mary Church in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1989. She resided in the Pleasant Prairie area all of her life.

She was a graduate of Muscatine High School Class of 1933 where she received her teaching certificate.

She was a member of the St. Mary Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Joan of Arc Court 524, Blue Grass American Legion Auxiliary, and the Pleasant Prairie Unity Club.

She worked as a teacher in Durant, retiring in 1977.

She enjoyed dancing, playing cards and gardening.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry Awbrey and wife, Dee Dee, of Davenport, Dave Awbrey and wife, Karen, of Muscatine, and Dale Awbrey and wife, Cora, of Pleasant Prairie; three daughters, Judy Jansen and husband, Art, of Davenport, Jane Awbrey of West Liberty, and Susan Lowe and husband, Mike, of Muscatine; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Stecher, Bernard Stecher and wife, Leona, and Lyle Stecher and wife, Joanne, all of Muscatine; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one infant daughter, Patricia Awbrey, two sisters, Bernice Hearst and Mary Daufeldt, and two grandsons, Terry and Todd Beaver.
