WEST LIBERTY, Iowa
Carroll Otis Fankhauser, 87, died Wednesday Dec. 20, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness.

Services will be held at the West Liberty United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be in the Memory Garden Cemetery in Iowa City.

Visitation will be at the Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty.

Mr. Fankhauser was born June 17, 1913, in Cedar Bluffs, the son of Otis and Nedia Achey Fankhauser. He married Margaret Yerington on May 10, 1942, in West Branch.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army.

He had farmed for many years and was employed with the government for 18 years. He retired from the Hoover Library in West Branch.

He was a member of the American Legion for 51 years and attended the Cedar Valley United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of West Liberty; three sons, Ron Fankhauser of Muscatine,
Dick Fankhauser and his wife, Betty, of Des Moines and Rick Fankhauser of Muscatine; four daughters, Rita Bates and her husband, Jim, of Muscatine, Joy Powers and her husband, Don, of Ainsworth, Karen Heick and her husband, Scott, of West Liberty, Kelly Bridenstine and her husband, Jerry, of West Liberty; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Fankhauser and his wife, Helen, of Ollie; a sister, Pauline Stout of Mechanicsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Carroll Eugene; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Fankhauser; three brothers; and three sisters.
