Jane B. Breckenfelder Rasmussen, 56, Madison, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at her home after a long battle with breast cancer.

Services are at Bethel Lutheran Church, Madison.

Visitation is at Cress Funeral Home, Madison. Memorials may be made to the Music or Latino Ministries at Bethel Lutheran Church, 423 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, WI 53703; or to Hospice Care Inc., 5395 Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711.

Mrs. Rasmussen was born Oct. 23, 1947, in Muscatine, the daughter of E. H. 'Breck' and Betty Breckenfelder. She married Steven A. Rasmussen of Madison Jan. 4, 1975.

After graduating from Muscatine High School in 1965, she attended Iowa State University, graduating with honors in 1969 with a bachelor's of arts in French. While at Iowa State, she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and was initiated into Mortar Board.

She lived her entire married life in Madison and worked as project manager for CUNA Mutual. She was active in Madison Westside Rotary, Quigleys, Bethel Lutheran Church's Celebration Circle, The Business Forum and The Garden Plotters Perennial Garden.

She and her husband had two children, Nicholas Grant Rasmussen and Elizabeth Merritt Rasmussen.

An avid traveler, gardener, photographer, and cook, she will be remembered for her love of family, her organizational abilities and her extraordinary sense of humor. She was a ready and unselfish helper to all who knew her. When she heard that a friend or acquaintance needed assistance of any kind, she gave of her time and talent to make them feel comfortable and secure.

Survivors include her husband; two children, Nick of San Rafael, Calif., and Beth of New York City, N.Y.; her mother, Betty Breckenfelder of Muscatine; brothers, David Breckenfelder and wife, Sue, of Oconomowoc, Wis., and John Breckenfelder and wife, Sherri, of St. Charles, Ill.; sisters, Ann Moody and husband, Chuck, of Muscatine and Susan Thilo and husband, Tom, of Idaho; her mother-in-law, Mary Ann Rasmussen of Madison; brothers-in-law, Eric Rasmussen and wife, Nanette, of Madison, Paul Rasmussen and wife, Karen, of Oconomowoc; sisters-in-law, Susan Goodman and husband, Sam, of Chevy Chase, Md., Peg Schroeder and husband, Walt, of DeForest, Wis., Christine Gunderson and husband, Bob, of Beloit, Wis., Karen Weier and husband, Scott, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Clare Radtke and husband, Dick, of Madison; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; and her father-in-law, Dr. Nathaniel Rasmussen of Dodgeville, Wis.
