MUSCATINE - George Wilbur Reesink, 83, of Muscatine, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at Unity Hospital. Services will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. Beverly Ingham Birtcher of the Spangler Chapel United Methodist Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tom Swenson, Gene Anderson, John Reesink, Hubert Hepker, Larry Terrill and Dean Schenkel. Honorary bearers will be Jim Finley, Paul Reed, Irvin Krueger, Francis McConnaha, Ray Frenzel, Richard Stutzman, Richard Shields, Don Gilleland, Lorraine Cole and Al Sywassink.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at the church following the committal.
Memorials may be made to the Spangler Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mr. Reesink was born on March 20, 1916, in Lake Township of Muscatine County, the son of William and Ella Van Gent Reesink. He married Edith Broadston on March 16, 1941, in Muscatine. They celebrated 58 years of marriage this past March.

George graduated from Muscatine High School in 1934, and he was active on the Muscatine High School football team where he earned a letter. He went into farming in 1941, in Lake Township until his retirement. He continued helping his son with the farming until this last year. He enjoyed watching sporting events and fishing in Minnesota. His grandchildren were a great source of pride for him. He was a member of the Spangler Chapel United Methodist Church and the Spangler Chapel Tuesday Coffee Club. He was on the board of Farm Service Company for many years. He was also president of the Rural Area Six School District and signed the bonds to build the Mulberry and Colorado Elementary Schools. He was president of the Rural Fire District Association and was also a trustee for Lake Township for 33 years.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Reesink, of Muscatine; a daughter, Dr. Carole J. Reesink of Bemidji, Minn.; a son, William G. Reesink and his wife, Marcia, of Muscatine; three grandchildren, Heidi L. and Erik W. Reesink of Muscatine, and Heather M. Robinson of Ames; and two sisters, Jennie J. Schenkel of Muscatine, and Ruth J. Kelly of Seattle, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Walter R. and Melvin Reesink.
