DURANT, Iowa --Eva E. Alpen, 86, Durant, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Bettendorf Health Care Center, Bettendorf.

Services were at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. The Rev. Darin Lovelace officiated. Musical selections were provided by accordionist, Lyle Beaver. Pallbearers are Rich Harmsen, Jeff Daufeldt, Tim Daufeldt, Andy Daufeldt, David Wiese and Chuck Hermann. Burial was at the Durant Cemetery, Durant.

Memorials may be made to the Durant Fire Department and to the Durant Lioness Park.

She was born July 25, 1917, in Cedar County, the son of Martin and Emma Freese Daufeldt. She married Arnold 'Arny' Alpen July 30, 1937, in Davenport. He preceded her in death June 25, 1991.

She was a member of the Durant Senior Citizens. She enjoyed playing cards, polka music and baking. Above all she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Ron Alpen of Durant; two sisters, Dorothy Hermann of Muscatine and Louise Schmelzer of Durant; four grandchildren, Steve Alpen and wife Michele, Scott Alpen and wife Deb, Dan Alpen and Nicole Alpen; seven great-grandchildren, Ansley, Abigail, Britta, Morgan, Benjamin, Ryan and Payton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Bonnie Alpen; two sisters, Grace Harmsen and Cathryn Wiese; two brothers, Harvey Daufeldt and Alvin 'Ike' Daufeldt; and a grandson, Stan Alpen.
