MUSCATINE - Ida Mae Nyweide, 86, of 2008 Mulberry Ave., died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at Unity Hospital. Services will be at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 400 Iowa Ave. Rev. Dawn Phares will officate. Pallbearers will be Leonard Paul, Don Pauken, Dave Duffee, Joel Hetzler, Tom Miller, and Bob Miller. Honorary Bearers will be Jim Loper and J. W. Myers. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church. Mrs. Nyweide was born on May 24, 1913, in Muscatine, the daughter of Elmer and Frieda Flora Kretschmer Hetzler. She married Wallace G. Nyweide on August 23, 1966, in Muscatine. She attended the Melpine country school and later taught there. She received degrees from Augustana College, Iowa State Teacher's College, and her Master's Degree from Drake University. She also taught at Washington Elementary School and then at Jefferson Elementary School. She retired in 1971. She was an active member of the Ziegler Memorial Lutheran Church in New Era before she joined the Wesley United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Christian Women's Club, Muscatine General Hospital Auxiliary, Delta Kappa Gamma, P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter JR, Garden Club, Ethics Club and the United Methodist Women. She and her husband traveled extensively, visiting every continent except one. She was admired for her excellence in teaching, needlework, entertaining, gardening, and the collection and pursuit of knowledge. Survivors include her husband, Wallace Nyweide of Muscatine; a brother, Harland Hetzler, and his wife, Lenore, of Monticello; two sisters, Agnes Miller of Davenport, and Corrine McKee of Muscatine; a special friend and caregiver, Judi Shipp; many nieces and nephews; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
