Robert Koenig
MUSCATINE, Iowa- Robert G. Koenig, 72, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.Funeral Service will be Thursday, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Rev. Sharon Phillips will officiate the services. Honorary casket bearers will by Alan Kilburn Sr., Ray Olivarez, Wayne Kilburn, Jim Warren, Eldon Ballenger, Mike Shonts, Janelle Hansen, Skip Hansen, Brandy Koenig, Carlos Moedano, Nicole Wheeler, Domonic Wheeler and Elizabeth Koenig. Casketbearers will be Cory Koenig, Scotty Koenig, Shane Adkisson, Anthony Koenig, Nathan Koenig, Derek Koenig, Rodney Koenig, Kodi Koenig and Josh Koenig. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Following the committal services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Muscatine American Legion.
Robert was born on April 29, 1936, in East Moline, Illinois, the son of Carl H. and Manilla Bay Nyenhuis Koenig. He married Sue Cardwell on January 21, 1959, in Muscatine.
Robert had retired from working in 1986.
He was an avid card player and enjoyed fishing and working on his 1949 Ford. He lived life to the fullest and loved his family deeply.
He will be sadly missed by those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sue Koenig of Muscatine; four sons, Bob Koenig and wife, Deb, of Muscatine, Scott Koenig and wife, Lisa, of Columbus Junction, Rod Koenig and wife, Shellie, of Muscatine, and Stacy Koenig and wife, Tracy, of Grandview; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Wesley Koenig of Phoenix, Arizona; three sisters, Catherine Culbertson of Davenport, Florida, Ruth Riley of Texas and Helen Culbertson, of Joplin, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Howard, Don, Dick, Chuck and Robert.
