MUSCATINE, Iowa - Weldon L. Newcomb, 73, of Muscatine, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at his home.
His body has been cremated per his wishes. Jeffrey S. Nichols Chapel Hill is in charge of the arrangements.
Newcomb was born June 20, 1934, in Muscatine, the son of Cecil F. and Letty Howard Newcomb.

He attended Muscatine Schools.

He married Leila Mangles in 1966. They later divorced.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served with Company C of the 128th Armored Ordinance Battalion, 6th Armored Division in Fort Leonardwood, Mo.

He was a past member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Club.

He loved to spend time with his family, fishing playing cards and his harmonica.

He is survived by his loving companion of 29 years, Judith Landon McKillip; one daughter, Belinda Newcomb of Orlando, Fla.; one step-son, Tim Wright of Eldon, ; four step-daughters, Paula Sorrowfree of Grandview, Joy Thorne of Clinton, Teresa Johnson of Muscatine and Jessica Hannes of Wilton; three grandchildren, Michael Newcomb, Warren Newcomb and Kayla Newcomb, all of Orlando, Fla.; 17 step-grandchildren; one of whom they raised for 20 years, Scott McKillip; two great-grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; one brother, Harold Newcomb and wife, Betty of Muscatine; five sisters, Marjorie Seright, Geraldine Phillips and Clara Stratton, all of Muscatine, Betty Tompkins and husband, Paul of Durant and Beverly Dorsey of Toulon, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Grace; two brothers, Ross and Ronald in infancy; one nephew, Todd Stratton and lifelong friend, Ross Landon.
