WEST LIBERTY INDEX, West Liberty (Muscatine Co.), Iowa, 10 Oct 1912.

OBITUARY.
Daniel W. Gifford, the father of Mrs. Henry Polders, died late Sunday afternoon at the Polders residence after an illness extending over several years, due largely to his advanced years. His condition had been critical during the last week. His son, E.W. Gifford of St. Paul, arrived several days ago and was at the home when death occurred.

He was born in Morgan county, Ohio, Oct. 30, 1832 and came to Iowa in 1856, practically all his life, after moving from Ohio, being spent in this vicinity. His first home was north of West Liberty and he resided there until his removal to town, some 15 years ago. June 21, 1857 he married Sarah B. Worrall, whose death occurred about six years ago.

Mr. Gifford merited his many friendships by a life of honesty and kindliness. Forty years ago he united with with the Cumberland Presbyterian church. In spite of his failing health he utilized his strength to the final days and until within a short time before death could be found in his daily walks about the streets, regardless of weather conditions. Mrs. Polders and E.W. Gifford are the only children.

The funeral services were held Tuesday morning, 10 o'clock, from the home in charge of Rev. M.E. Reusch, pastor of the M.E. church. Interment was made at Oakridge cemetery.
