DIED

At her home in this city, Saturday, June 24, 1882, at 5:15 am, of a cancerous affection, HARRIET, wife of Samuel M. Thompson, in the 60th year of her age.

The sad news conveyed so briefly has been sorrowfully anticipated by society for days, but nothing can parry the grief with which all hearts are stricken at the final announcement. Our crowded space this evening will permit of only the briefest notice of the life whose sunset has darkened so many homes of our city.

Deceased was the youngest daughter of Abram I. Lines, of Warwick, New York, where she was born November 21, 1821. She was married to Mr. Samuel M. Thompson, February 5, 1845, at the town of Goshen, New York, and in March, 1854, accompanied her husband to Muscatine, where she has since resided. During the past winter she became subject to a tumorous affection, but not until a few weeks was her life seemingly imperilled. But the highest skill of the first physicians of our city and State, and the constant attention of experienced nurses, were powerless to avert the impending stroke. She died this morning, peacefully, painlessly, like the falling into quiet sleep.

Deceased joined the Congregational church of this city on her arrival here, and for twenty six years has adorned the Christian profession with a life that honored the name of her Master, and which has left its pure, sweet memory as a blessing to all who enjoyed its society.

The funeral will take place from the residence, corner of Third and Linn streets, on Monday next at 9:30 am.
