Obituary
Caleb A. Hesser
Caleb A. Hesser was born in Crawford county, O., November 26, 1836 and died at his home in Nichols, Ia., January 5, 1921, aged 85 years, 1 month, and 9 days.

He was first married to Agnes J. Pitt, May 5, 1857. Three children, now deceased, were born to this union. He was again married to Mrs. A.V. Younkin, Febuary 27, 1890, who with two stepchildren, Frank Younkin and Olive Meene of Oklahoma, an adopted daughter, Mrs. Maud Watson, of Oklahoma; four brothers, John E. Hesser of Nichols, P.C. Hesser of Fort Scott, Kan., Isaac D. Hesser, Andrew Hesser of Toledo, O.; three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, mourn their loss.

He was a long-time member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Nichols, Ia., and honored his profession with a Godly life, passing away in full hope of life eternal. He was a man radiant in faith and good works.

He enlisted in the service of his country in the civil war in August 1861, and was wounded in the Battle of Shiloh.

Thus the march of another soldier is over, his battles all fought, his victories all won and, as in other days, he lies down to rest awhile under the arching sky, awaiting the bugle's call.

He was of a kindly disposition, highly respected by his friends. He loved his home, where peace and harmony prevailed; he loved his church, his country, and his flag; it may be said of him that his ways were ways of pleasantness and all his paths were peace.
