John C. Hesser
John C. Hesser , civil war veteran and resident of this city for 13 years, died at 6:30 o'clock this mornign following an extended illness at his home , 1610 Orange street. Death was due to a ten-day siege of pneumonia though he had been in failing health since two years ago when he suffered a stroke of paralysis. He was 76 years old.

He was born in Johnson county, Ia., Oct. 20, 1845. When 18 years old, Feb. 12, 1864, he enlisted with Company A, Seventh Iowa Volunteers, and served until the end of the Civil war. After being honorably discharged, July 25, 1865, he framed in Drury Township, Ill., until 13 years ago when he retired and came to musctine. He was married to Miss Eliza Reynolds in 1867, to which ten children were born, two of whom preceded him in death.

Besides his widow, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Henry Hampton of New Boston, Ill., Mrs. John Mlils of Ardon, Mrs. Lawrence Beeney of Foster, Ill., and Mrs. J.S. Milton of Muscatine; four sons, Abe Hesser of Boone, Colo., James Hesser of Denver, Colo., John H. Hesser of Gainesville, Fla., and Harry Hesser of this city; and a sister, Mrs. Mathilda Bell of Buffalo, Ia. (Article includes photo)

Funeral services for John C. Hesser, Civil war veteran who died yesterday morning, will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning from the home, 1610 Orange street, and at 1 p.m. from the Providence church at Foster, Ill. The Rev. W.H. Rogers will officiate. Burial will be made in the Reynolds cemetery.
