LIBERTY RESIDENT TAKEN BY DEATH

Herman Longbotham Dies in Hospital at Iowa City After Long Illness

West Liberty - Herman Longbotham, 71, died in Mercy Hospital at Iowa City at 7 am today. He had been in Iowa City for treatment for five months and had been in failing health for a year. Funeral arrangments are incomplete, pending word from children living at a distance, but burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Mr. Longbotham was born in York county, England, Nov. 15, 1861, where he grew to manhood and where he was married June 22, 1866 to Miss Isabella Stephenson. In 1891, with their three children, they came to America and settled near West Branch where for more than 10 years he followed the carpenter's trade. They then moved to a farm in the South Prairie community, moving to West Liberty a year ago.

He is survived by his widow and seven daughters and a son, Mrs. Hannah Townsend of Williaham, Mass., Mrs Elizabeth Foldner of Van Wert, Ohio, Mrs. Evelyn Fullerton of Muscatine, Mrs. Constance Hortz of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Mable Wolf of West Libery, Mrs. Dorothy Reynolds of Odebolt, Mrs. Frances Dahl of Letts and Edward Longbotham of San Francisco. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
