MUSCATINE, Iowa - Donald Leroy Dieckman, 68, of 1915 Miles Ave., died Thursday, February 12, 2004, at his home after a courageous battle with heart failure.

Service will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Sharon Phillips of the Jesus Mission will officiate. Casket bearers will be William Morgan, Ted Hatfield Sr., Collin Grady, Tom Hatfield, Tommy Hatfield Jr., Mike Beason and Darrin Beason. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was born on March 25, 1935, in Muscatine, the son of Harry and Leona Kulp Dieckman. He married Shirley M. Hatfield on April 4, 1958, in Muscatine.

He was a US Army veteran serving in Giessen, Germany from 1955 to 1956.

He worked at Oscar Mayer for 23 years and retired from Heinz USA after 18 years of employment.

Donald loved spending time in the yard tending his flower gardens, feeding the birds, and also doing jigsaw puzzles. He will be especially missed by his faithful companion and beloved dog, Bridgett.Survivors include his wife, Shirley Dieckman of Muscatine; two daughters, Chris Grady and husband, Cole, of Muscatine and Dixie Dieckman of Muscatine; two grandsons, Cody Grady and Collin Grady, both of Muscatine; and one brother, Wayne Dieckman of Muscatine.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, step-father Dewey Lewis, and a brother, Harry Dieckman.
