MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Gary L. LaRue, 62, Muscatine, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Services are at the Jeffrey S. Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory, 114 W. Fourth St., Muscatine. The Rev. Sharon Phillips will officiate.

He was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Muscatine, the son of Howard Marcell and Evelyn Hake LaRue. He had worked as a carpenter for many years. He enjoyed fishing, spending time along the river and gardening. Survivors include his friend and companion of 31 years, Clara Maylone of Muscatine; two daughters, Cora M. Pierce of Blue Springs, Mo., and Julie Ash of Muscatine; two stepsons, Jerry Maylone and Donald Maylone, both of Muscatine; a stepdaughter, Angie Maylone of Muscatine; 13 grandchildren; his twin brother, Larry LaRue of Fruitland; and a sister, Rosemary Anderson of Letts. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Steve; and a sister, Jackie Stamer.
