HELEN HONTS

IOWA CITY - Helen Honts, 67, of 726 Highland Ave., Iowa City, died of cancer, Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997 at her home.

A funeral Mass will be at 1:30 pm Tuesday, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm tonight, with a parish rosary recited at 6:30 pm and a vigil service at 7 pm at the Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorial donations may be made to Iowa City Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Honts was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Hardin, Ill., the daughter of John and Lela (Kaiser) Becker. She married Farrell Honts on Feb. 2, 1948, in Hardin. Prior to moving to Iowa City in 1958, the couple lived in Muscatine. For many years she worked at Hamburg Inn in Iowa City, and before her retirement, she worked at the Patio Restaurant in Iowa City.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Honts of Iowa City; six daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Carolyn) MacLearn of Fort Madison, Marolyn Honts and Mrs. Jerry (Vicki) Mickle, both of Iowa City, Sheila Dolan of Coralville, Debbie Honts-Bertling and her husband, Gary Bertling of North Liberty, and Lisa Honts of Coralville; nine grandchildren, two foster granddaughters, one great-grandson, and one expectant great-grandchild; four sisters, Evelyn Vetter of Kampsville, Ill., Mrs. Raymond (Carmelita) Dirksmeyer and Mrs. Ronald(Rosemary) Evans, both of Carrollton, Ill., Mrs. Lawrence (Patricia) Pohlmann of Godfrey, Ill; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Sylvester and Doris Becker of East Alton, Ill., Eugene and Angie Becker of Fresno, Calif., Ralph and Opal Becker, Jerome and Virgina Becker, and John and Marcella Becker, all of Kampsville, Ill., and Harold and Carol Becker of Normal, Ill.; and three sisters-in-law, Fern Yocum of Muscatine, Mrs. Floyd (Hazel) Lawson of Prophetstown, Ill., and Velma Honts of Muscatine.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 30, 1985.
