Columbus Junction – George Chown, 84 a long time resident of Louisa county, died at his home four miles north of town at 5 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at the home at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon.
He was born May 29, 1848 at Janesville, O. The family moved from there to Wheeling W. Va., and in 1856 came to Iowa, settling on a farm near Muscatine. He came to this county in 1878 and settled on the farm where he died. After two years he returned to a farm near Muscatine, but two years later returned to the farm near the city, where he lived continuously until his death.
He was married Oct. 16, 1878, to Miss Mary Myers, who survives, together with the following children: Misses Bertha and Minnie Chown at home; Mrs. Howard Green of Columbus Junction; Mrs. Roy Littrel and Mrs. Homer Van Zandt of Conesville; Mrs. Mary Shomberg of Letts; one sister, Mrs. W.H. Foster of near Muscatine; nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
