Lone Tree – Louis “Peanut” Chown, 81, of Route 1, Nichols, died suddenly Wednesday.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sorden Funeral Home in Lone Tree. The Rev. Robyn Plocher will officiate. Burial will be at the Nichols Cemetery at Nichols.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established.
Mr. Chown was born Dec 1, 1904, at Nichols, a son of Lewis D. and Elizabeth A. Meyers Chown. On Feb. 11, 1939, he was united in marriage to Genevieve Brown in Muscatine.
He was a farmer and a volunteer fireman for the Nichols Fire Department.
He was a 50 – year member of Modern Woodman Lodge, a member of the Oddfellows lodge, the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge.
He served on the school board nine years.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve; two sons, David, of Nichols; and Doug, stationed at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio; two daughters, Audrey McGinn, of Colorado Springs; and Wiladine Burns, of Bettendorf; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
