Nichols – Doris L. Chown, 61, Nichols, died Thursday evening at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Nichols Christian Church. Rev. William, Keller will officiate and burial will be in the Nichols Cemetery. Visitation is being held at the Sorden Chapel, Lone Tree.
Doris Poole was born Dec 29, 1914, at Nichols, the daughter of Fred and Hazel Bixby Poole.
She married Robert Chown Dec 29, 1932, at Rock Island, Ill. She was a member of the Christian Church at Nichols, Order of Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband; five sons, Fred of St. Cloud, Minn., James of Mendora, Wis., Max, Dana and J. Kevan of Nichols; a daughter, Mrs. William (Karen) Cline of West Liberty; 16 grandchildren; her mother and a sister, Mrs. Betty Jean Underwood of Woodard, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her father, a son, brother and one grandchild.
